It's usually good to have your baby's first dental visit when their first tooth comes into their mouth or, at least, by their 1st Birthday!

Some children can come into the dental office as early as 6 months of age or when their first tooth erupts.

At the first dental visit, your dentist will educate you on how to care for your child's teeth and give you proper oral hygiene instructions. As a rule of thumb, you should clean your baby's teeth. It's good to use a soft toothbrush and brush their teeth twice a day. If the child is less than 2 y/o, they only need a very small amount of toothpaste, less than a pea-size. If the child is between the ages of 2-5 y/o, they can use a pea-size amount of toothpaste. You want to assist your child with brushing their teeth until they are around 7-8 years old.

Your dentist should also give you nutritional counseling and provide you with recommendations of what your child should eat and drink to keep their teeth healthy.

It is so important for you to take care of your child's baby teeth because the baby teeth hold the space for your child's permanent teeth. So, you don't want your child to lose their baby teeth too soon.

Until Next time...

May God Richly Bless You,

Dr. Rich
